Jim & Troy Kenny: 2019 Hall of Fame Inductees

Building is in their blood. That is the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind when they meet Jim and Troy Kenny, the founders and leaders of Hagood Homes. The Kenny’s have a long history of custom home building. It’s a craft that has been handed down from generation to generation in the Kenny family.

The first Hagood home stands on one of the prettiest parcels of land in Barnwell, South Carolina, among moss-covered oaks and towering pine trees. Built in 1841, it is still a living, breathing home that feels filled with the spirit of inspiration. Jim’s great-grandfather, Johnson Hagood, was the man responsible for the construction of the first Hagood home.

Jim and Troy continued the Hagood family’s legacy for homebuilding by creating Hagood Homes, Inc. in 1996. 23 years later and 1200+ homes later in Coastal North Carolina and South Carolina the Kenny’s passion and vision is just as strong today as it was the day they started.

BUILDING WITH PURPOSE – THAT IS THE MANTRA OF THE KENNY’S

The Kenny’s met while working for a national builder right out of college. “The first day we met, I knew I would marry her,” Jim says. They proved to be excellent partners, in marriage as well as in business.

The combination of inspiration, heart and hard work has proven successful for Jim and Troy. Jim ensures that every Hagood home is built to his exacting standards, while Troy’s design vision makes every Hagood home a true original. Troy was born with a creative talent that puts her floor plans in a class of their own. She designed her first home when she was 5 and it still hangs in our office today.

Such a track record has helped Hagood Homes earn a number of prestigious awards, including the Parade of Homes Gold Award, which they have won multiple times through their 23 years of building.

A HISTORY OF EXCELLENCE

Jim and Troy also have a strong belief in supporting and giving back. For example Hagood Homes has been a strong supporter and voice within the Home Building Association. They have been a member of the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders for over 25 years. They are also a member of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association in South Carolina. Jim was one of four builders to serve on the North Carolina Building Code Council, and in 1998, he served as the president of the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association. In 2014 the Kenny’s were honored for all their efforts to help promote New Home Sales within the Cape Fear Region with the Cathy Clark Award through the Associations Cape Fear New Home Sales Marketing Council.

Through community interaction, commitment, professionalism, education, community service and environmental responsibility, we strive for our work and our homes to be showcases of excellence in the home building industry.

The Kenny’s are also grounded in their faith and through their mission travels in the Ukraine felt inspired and found a calling. In 2004 the Kenny’s created the non-profit organization Hagood Hope for Children. This organization serves to help provide the basic necessities of life, food, clothing and shelter, for under privileged children as well expose them to the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through hagood hope for children, they have given back over 1.2M to local and international charities focused on improving the lives of children.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are happy to honor Jim Kenny and Troy Kenny into this year’s 2019 Hall of Fame.

Hagood Wins Gold Again in 2019 Parade of Homes!

We’re proud to announce that Hagood Homes won gold (again!) in the 2019 Parade of Homes, presented by the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association. The Parade of Homes is a showcase of the finest new homes in Southeastern North Carolina. This year we featured three of Troy Kenny’s never-built-before brand new plans within Compass Pointe in Catherine’s Cove. The homes were included in the lineup for touring and in the running for a prize against the competition!

THE TRADITION CONTINUES

The Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association began the annual Parade of Homes event in 1987. The first Parade featured 26 homes located throughout New Hanover County and the tour was held one weekend in October.

Now, the tradition lives on, this year, with over 70 homes featured in both New Hanover and Brunswick Counties for two full weekends. The homes are categorized by price range and judged based on craftsmanship, quality of materials, and interior and exterior features.
