Life at Summerhouse on Everett Bay: Where Every Day Feels Like a Vacation

Imagine waking up to sparkling water views, sipping coffee on your porch as the sun comes up, and knowing that just steps from your home are places to swim, play, boat, or simply relax under the Carolina sky. That’s life at Summerhouse on Everett Bay — and it’s why Hagood Homes is proud to be part of this one-of-a-kind community in Onslow County, NC.

First Impressions Matter

Pulling up to the main gate feels like you’ve arrived at a private resort. The beautifully landscaped entry sets the tone — you’re stepping into a neighborhood that’s not just secure, but special.

The Heart of Summerhouse: Clubhouse, Pool & Gym

This is where neighbors become friends. The clubhouse hosts community gatherings, parties, and celebrations big and small. Outside, the resort-style pool sparkles in the sunshine, and whether you’re swimming laps or just floating with a book in hand, it feels like a mini-vacation. Want to break a sweat? The fitness center has everything you need to fit in a quick workout before heading to the water.

Gather, Relax, & Play

On warm evenings, the open-air pavilion and fire pit come alive. It’s where neighbors gather to share stories, roast marshmallows, and watch the stars. And yes, Summerhouse even has its own lazy river — perfect for kids, or kids at heart, who just want to float their cares away.

Nature at Your Doorstep

If you love the outdoors, you’ll feel right at home. Spicer Lake Park offers peaceful walking paths, a charming gazebo, and quiet spots to soak up the view. With nine lakes and ponds, plus bridges and green spaces scattered throughout the community, every walk feels like a nature escape.

Stay Active: Courts, Playground & More

Whether you’re a pickleball fanatic, a weekend tennis player, or just looking to shoot some hoops, Summerhouse has it all. Families love the playground, and it’s not unusual to see kids playing while parents rally on the courts nearby.

Life on the Water

Living here means the Intracoastal Waterway is practically your backyard. Launch a kayak, take your boat out from the ramp, or enjoy a quiet morning on the day dock. And because there’s convenient RV and boat storage right in the neighborhood, adventure is always within reach.

Beach Days Made Easy

When you’re ready for a change of scenery, the beautiful beaches of Topsail Island are just minutes away. Pack a picnic, grab your flip-flops, and in no time you’re enjoying the sand, surf, and charm of one of North Carolina’s favorite coastal spots.

Oyster Harbour: Lifestyle on the Intracoastal

At Hagood Homes, we’re fortunate to build in some of the most beautiful communities along the Carolina coast — and Oyster Harbour in Supply, NC is one of those hidden gems. Just minutes from Holden Beach and Shallotte, this gated neighborhood is nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway, where tree-lined streets, marsh views, and quiet waters make every day feel like a getaway.

We’ve been spending time here lately, and to give you a sense of the community, we put together a few driving tours. These are hosted by our own Hannah Tew and Nora Ruehle, who know Oyster Harbour inside and out.

Download a map of the Oyster Harbour community here & join Hannah on a driving tour down the streets of Oyster Harbour: Eagle Crest Drive, Healing Water Lane & Russell Hewlett Road:

Now let’s join Hannah on a fun driving tour down the streets of Oyster Harbour: Bluefin Terrace, Sandridge Lane, Oyster Harbour Parkway & Portside Drive.

We conclude the driving tour with a look down the streets of Oyster Harbour: Heron Lake Drive and Redfish Run.

Two Homesites, Endless Opportunities

In the third driving tour, Hannah stops at Homesite #229, where we’re preparing to break ground on a Cape Hatteras design.

“This one’s about to come to life,” Hannah shares, and it’s easy to picture its porches, light-filled rooms, and the breeze flowing through once construction begins.

Nearby, Homesite #264 offers a little more flexibility. Hannah walks viewers through the proposed Cape Lookout Alt plan, but also reminds buyers that this lot is wide open for personalization.

“You can choose a different Hagood plan and make it your own,” she explains, highlighting the kind of freedom Oyster Harbour homeowners enjoy.

For those who aren’t quite ready to build right away, Oyster Harbour also has about 15 additional homesites listed on the public market. Hannah and Nora would be glad to explore those with anyone planning a longer timeline.

A Lifestyle Centered on Amenities

What sets Oyster Harbour apart isn’t just the homes — it’s the lifestyle. Residents enjoy an impressive list of amenities that make it easy to spend the day outdoors or gather with friends and neighbors.

In the clubhouse and pool tour, Hannah points out how inviting the community spaces are, offering something for everyone.

Whether you’re starting your morning with a workout or cooling off in the water there is no shortage of activity and places to have fun.

If tennis or pickleball are more your thing, then you’re in luck! Tennis and pickleball courts bring a fun, social side to the neighborhood!

And certainly not to be outdone, the kayak launch is a favorite of Nora’s. “This might be my happy place,” she says as she looks out over the Intracoastal.

To really get a sense of Oyster Harbour’s beauty, don’t miss the drone tour. The aerial perspective shows how the homes, amenities, and waterways all come together in a community that feels both tucked away and connected.

Homes in Progress

Several Hagood homes are also taking shape here, giving future homeowners the chance to see different designs in different stages:

The Harbour Side, recently completed, shows off Hagood’s signature craftsmanship.

The Daw’s Creek, now at the trim and paint stage, is nearly ready to welcome its owners.

The Palmetto Cove will begin construction soon, another great example of how Oyster Harbour continues to grow.

For those building with us, our Buildertrend system provides real-time updates, so you can follow your home’s progress whether you live nearby or across the country.

Why Oyster Harbour?

Oyster Harbour offers the best of coastal North Carolina: minutes to the beach, close to everyday conveniences, and filled with amenities that make life richer. More than that, it’s a community where neighbors wave, families gather, and porches become favorite rooms in the house.

As Hannah put it best during one of our tours: “This isn’t just a neighborhood—it’s a lifestyle.”

If you’d like to experience Oyster Harbour yourself, let us know. Hannah and Nora would love to show you around — by car, by foot, or even by kayak.

The Ultimate Guide to Owning Your First Hagood Home

With so many decisions to make – both large and small – creating your dream home can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to. Partnering with the Hagood team turns building your dream home into an enjoyable process. Here’s how it works.

Pick a Plan (Then Make It Yours)

Hagood has an extensive portfolio of semi-customizable floor plans. This flexibility enables you to tailor your floor plan to suit your lifestyle, with guidance from a design team every step of the way.

That might mean creating a larger pantry, reworking a bedroom into an open-plan office, or adding a larger porch. You’ll also get a one-on-one meeting with our in-house design team to create a mood board to help you visualize your space. This in-house approach delivers a bespoke home without the lengthy timeline or cost of most custom builds.

A Signature Design Process

After your floor plan is finalized, a three-day design consultation begins. This hands-on process pairs you with a team of specialists who will work together to create the home of your dreams.

You’ll meet with kitchen experts to discuss details such as cabinets, countertops, and appliances. Master electricians will guide you through lighting schemes, panel placements, and smart-home configurations. A landscape architect will help ensure that your home’s exterior landscaping aligns with your vision. With budgeting guidance at every stage, you can make confident choices, leaving no detail overlooked.

Energy Efficient from the Ground Up

Saving energy is a hallmark of every Hagood home. According to the national HERS index – the industry standard for measuring a home’s energy efficiency – Hagood homes rank 45% better than the average newly built home in the U.S.

Much of this savings comes from our signature open-cell spray foam insulation, which encapsulates the home and helps keep it cool on even the hottest of days. Standard double-pane windows and high-efficiency HVAC systems also help Hagood homes save energy and deliver year-round comfort.

Made for Everyday Living

Designed with aging-in-place in mind, Hagood homes feature open floor plans, wide doorways, and zero-entry showers in primary ensuites. Large walk-in attic spaces eliminate the need to climb pull-down stairs to access storage. From oversized garages to thoughtful built-ins, such as our popular drop zones, each space is carefully considered to offer accessibility and ease of use.

Embrace Outdoor Living

Owning a Hagood home means you’ll be able to take full advantage of the pleasant weather in the Coastal Carolinas.

Our front porches are the perfect place to settle into a rocker to enjoy quiet mornings with cool breezes and green views. For many, a traditional Southern home wouldn’t be complete without a screened porch found on every floor plan. These thoughtfully designed porches and patios include space for dining and seating areas, providing shaded comfort year-round.

If you choose a plan with a covered porch on the second floor, you can enjoy the outdoors with lofty views.

When you’re ready to own your first Hagood home, we can help make that home fit your lifestyle. Contact a member of our team today.

Experience Elevated Living with Hagood Homes

From the homes we build to the communities in which we build them, choosing Hagood means choosing an elevated lifestyle. It means living with exceptional design, advanced energy efficiency, and your choice of outdoor living spaces.

Open Plan Design at Its Best

Step into a Hagood home, and you immediately notice an openness and airiness with the seamless flow between living spaces. The feeling is warm and inviting, giving rise to a bright, spacious sensation with clean sightlines and smart design.

Vaulted ceilings amplify a welcoming sense of open space. Oversized windows and tall glass doors fill those spaces with natural light. The kitchen’s expansive island flows effortlessly to the dining and living areas, creating a unified gathering place with our signature great rooms at its heart.

Wide pathways. Uninterrupted sightlines. Subtle built-ins. Multi-functional alcoves and nooks. These elements and others come together in open-plan designs that are streamlined, functional, and a hallmark of the Hagood Difference.

Outdoor Living Awaits

Natives rarely leave, and folks from across the country choose to live in the Coastal Carolinas for one big reason: the weather. That’s why Hagood prioritizes outdoor living spaces.

No outdoor space embodies Southern living like a screened porch. It’s the time-honored retreat for sharing al fresco meals amid soft breezes and green vistas. It’s the favored haven for settling back and recounting the day as the cicadas sing their evening songs.

For more outdoor experiences, covered verandas and second-story porches provide magnificent views of the leafy communities where we build Hagood homes. Bridging indoor and outdoor spaces, large four-season rooms deliver unobstructed views of nature with wraparound walls of floor-to-ceiling windows.

On a wide entry porch with Southern-inspired columns, traditional rockers invite you to ease into the art of outdoor living.

Designed With Energy in Mind

Hagood’s high-performance homes conserve energy better than most newly constructed homes thanks to closed-cell spray foam insulation. Unlike traditional fiberglass insulation, spray foam expands to fill every gap, eliminating drafts and reducing air leakage by up to 50%. This tightly sealed thermal envelope significantly reduces energy waste and creates comfortable interiors.

Need proof? Step into one of our walk-in attic spaces. Typically, these spaces are sweltering on a warm summer day, but the temperature stays about the same as the rest of the home. High-performance Low-E windows maximize energy savings. With double-pane glass and argon gas insulation, these above-grade windows reduce heat transfer and block harmful UV rays.

High-efficiency HVAC systems keep utility bills low. Exceeding federal efficiency standards by around 30%, the Trane XVI8 TruComfort air conditioning system delivers precise temperature control while expending minimal energy. Smart thermostats with zone controls optimize energy use with targeted temperature management.

Are you ready for elevated living? To talk about the possibility of owning a Hagood home, contact a member of our team today.

It’s The Little Things

At Hagood, we don’t simply build houses; we craft experiences. A host of small, intentional touches come together to create those experiences, turning ordinary living into something extraordinary. Let’s look at some thoughtful features you’ll discover in a Hagood home.

Elegant Design Details

  • Soft-close cabinets and drawers. Think you don’t care about them? Just wait until the soft-touch glides and whisper-quiet hinges add unexpected luxury to your daily life.
  • Custom trim & moldings. Graceful millwork runs throughout a Hagood home, with crown molding, shiplap accents, and craftsman-style baseboards displaying Lowcountry style.
  • Tall interior doors. Eight-foot solid-core doors on the home’s first floor mean an airier, more open feel.
  • Pocket doors. Space-saving and practical, pocket doors for select pantries and bathrooms are as handy as they are elegant.
  • Crushed shell flooring. Bring coastal living to your front door, literally. We use shells from the Carolina coast to create our signature crushed shell porches.

A Bit of Bathroom Refinement

  • Oversized tile showers. With a zero-entry design for aging-in-place, spacious showers offer a spa-like experience, turning daily routines into mini indulgences.
  • Dual vanities. Large primary ensuites come standard with deep twin sinks – no more waiting until it’s your turn to brush your teeth!
  • Fog-free bathroom mirrors. What catches most people’s attention is that the two mirrors in the primary ensuite are elegantly backlit. But after that first steamy shower, you’ll discover they don’t fog.
  • Separate water closet. Enclosed water closet areas, a top feature for homebuyers, give primary ensuites extra privacy.

Storage Solutions for Everyday Living

  • Walk-in pantries. Say goodbye to cramped shelves and kitchen clutter! Organization meets elegance with a spacious pantry serving your chef’s kitchen.
  • Walk-in attic spaces. Pull down stairs? Hunching over to root through your stuff? Not with a Hagood home! Our plans include walk-in spacious storage areas with ample standing space. Spray foam insulation saves energy and keeps the attic around the same temperature as the rest of the home.
  • Drop zones. You’ll wonder how you lived without one! Strategically placed near entrance doors, these handy built-ins blend function and style. Stow your bags, devices, and whatever’s in your hand – an effortless way to declutter.
  • Garage bump-outs. As if our oversized garages weren’t big enough! Many of our plans include an extra garage bump-out perfect for storage, workbenches, or even a golf cart.
  • Golf cart garages. It’s an option. In many of the gated communities with Hagood homes, golf carting is a popular way to zip around. Why shouldn’t your cart have its own special spot in your large garage?

Lighting to Enhance Your Lifestyle

  • Energy-efficient LED lighting. Bright, long-lasting, and cost-effective, LED fixtures reduce energy use while creating a magnificent ambiance.
  • Under-counter kitchen lighting. On the practical side, it makes food prep easier by eliminating shadows on countertops. On the mood-enhancing side, it adds sophistication to evening gatherings.

With Hagood Homes, the smallest details matter most, and everyday moments feel elevated through smart design. To find out more, contact a member of the Hagood team today.

Walking in the Footsteps of Legacy: A Hagood Homes Journey to Hilton Head and Beyond

There are trips that inspire — and then there are the ones that transform. Our recent visit to Hilton Head Island and Savannah was the kind of experience that left each of us with more than just beautiful memories. It gave us a deeper sense of who we are at Hagood Homes, where we come from, and where we’re going.

Nearly 30 years ago, Jim and Troy Kenny started Hagood Homes with a belief that homes should do more than shelter us — they should reflect us, embrace us, and elevate our everyday lives. They built this company on craftsmanship, intention, and heart. That foundation still holds strong today, even as the next chapter unfolds under the steady leadership of Patrick Kennedy, who now serves as owner and president.

And yet, despite passing the torch, Jim and Troy remain very much part of the story — not only guiding and inspiring but still creating. Now based in the Low Country of South Carolina, the Kennys continue to pour their creativity into homes that are more than structures — they are soulful works of art. To walk through them is to feel something: calm, connection, intention.

That’s what brought us to Hilton Head.

A Visit to the Source

We — Patrick Kennedy, Josh Adams, Hannah Tew, Nora Ruehle, and Jen Reed — recently made the trip to visit Jim and Troy and walk through some of their newest work with Hagood Homes of the Low Country. We were welcomed not just as colleagues, but as family. That spirit, that humility, and that passion for building with purpose were everywhere we turned — in conversations, in shared meals, and especially in the homes themselves.

One in particular stood out: a custom home on Harrogate Drive. It took our breath away. It’s hard to describe, really — the way the textures caught the light, the way indoor and outdoor spaces danced together, the way the home unfolded like a story. You could feel Troy’s design eye in every corner, Jim’s construction mind in every joint. What they’ve built in the Low Country isn’t just a continuation of Hagood — it’s a living tribute to everything they’ve believed in since 1996.

We left the house inspired, a little speechless, and completely reminded of why we all do what we do.

We weren’t just touring homes, we were walking through everything this company has ever stood for — and seeing where it can go next.”

Old Lessons, New Eyes

The second half of our trip took us just across the Georgia line to Savannah, where we joined Jonathan Stalcup of Architectural Tours of Savannah for a walking tour of the city’s historic neighborhoods. It was hot, the streets were full of stories, and we were wide-eyed like students again — tracing the emergence of architectural styles across generations, hearing how trends were born, how they faded, and how some endured.

We learned about tabby concrete, a building material developed centuries ago, made of lime, water, sand, and oyster shells. To our delight, we realized it’s still part of our homes today — living proof that timelessness matters more than trends. The buildings around us whispered lessons: that restraint is a form of luxury, that symmetry calms the spirit, and that homes, when well-crafted, become more than shelter — they become legacy.

It wasn’t just an educational moment. It was a personal one. We saw Hagood in those old bricks and beams. We saw Jim and Troy in the discipline of design that doesn’t demand attention, but quietly earns admiration. And we saw ourselves — carrying on something bigger than any blueprint.

Reconnecting, Reflecting, Remembering Why

Somewhere between the job site visits and the shaded squares of Savannah, something clicked for us as a team. This trip wasn’t just about inspiration — it was about connection. About slowing down long enough to reflect on what we’ve built together, and who we’re building for.

We came back to Wilmington with more than new ideas and full hearts. We came back grounded. Reinvigorated. Proud. Proud of the people who had the vision to start all this. Proud of the team we’ve become. And proud to carry forward the name Hagood — with every line we draw, every home we frame, and every family we welcome into something we’ve built.

This company started with a couple’s vision. It continues because of shared values — among the team, the clients, and the communities we’re lucky to serve. And the future? We’re building it together. With steady hands. With fresh eyes. And always, always with heart.

“This trip reminded us that great homes come from great people — and we’re lucky to be walking in the footsteps of some of the very best.”

Would You Like to Come Along?

If you’ve ever wondered what makes a Hagood Home feel different, it’s this: the legacy behind it, the people inside it, and the love poured into every detail. We’re honored to keep creating homes that last — and to keep growing, inspired by the visionaries who started it all.
