Compass Pointe Update: July 2023

Compass Pointe continues to grow! We love this master-planned community because it offers incredible amenities and exceptional homes just ten minutes from the vibrant port city of Wilmington. Hagood is currently building homes in the Timber Ridge Estates area of Compass Pointe and plans to break ground on new homes in the Northridge section next year.

Model Homes to Visit

Hagood has two model homes in the Timber Ridge Estates section of Compass Pointe.

Until January, a Harbour Town III will serve as our model home. A front porch welcomes with wide craftsman-inspired columns that embrace classic coastal style. The Harbour Town III features an open floor plan, cathedral beam ceilings, and a second-floor lounge with a covered balcony.

Opening soon, a Portsmouth Island will be the model through next year. This home has an added third-bay garage with individual carriage-style doors on each of the three garage spaces. An eight-foot-deep front porch with a crushed-shell finish is perfect for rockers. Distinctive interior features include the kitchen’s arabesque tile backsplash and the pantry’s barn-style sliding door. Plus, floor-to-ceiling windows flood the sunroom with natural light. Full of low-country charm, this one’s a must-visit!

More Hagood Homes to Discover

Here are a few of the impressive Hagood homes you’ll find along the tranquil streets of Compass Pointe.

Shackleford Banks Canted 3 Car. This home immediately draws attention with its angled three-car garage placement, making the exterior unique. Inside, a generous study looks out to the home’s front, while a light-filled four-seasons room looks onto a pool at the rear of this home that’s almost finished. Throughout, the Shackleford Banks series embodies classic architecture and timeless style.

Albemarle Sound II. Upon entering, you’ll notice one striking feature: the back of the home is nearly all glass! You’ll find even more natural light in the four-seasons room. It shares a see-through fireplace with a great room that impresses with vaulted, coffered ceilings. There are so many other wonderful features in this home that has four bedrooms, four and a half baths, and a three-car garage.

LaBarre Residence. One of our most recent custom homes features a great room with a twelve-foot-high double-tray ceiling and a large kitchen island. A bright media room, a four-season room, and a cozy breakfast nook offer enviable views of a scenic pond. Upstairs, you’ll find a huge bonus room, a full bath, and access to an attic with plenty of storage space.

These are only a handful of the Hagood homes you’ll find in Compass Pointe. Want to make one of these amazing plans yours one day? Contact us below to talk about joining the Compass Pointe community.

Featured Floorplan: The Palmetto Cove

Named for the iconic palms that grace the Carolina shores, the Palmetto Cove home design offers a contemporary take on traditional low country design. Let’s look at what makes this Hagood home so popular.

Enjoy an Expanded Sense of Space

With 2,175 heated square feet, the Palmetto Cove is one of Hagood’s smaller homes. But it lives much larger than its numbers suggest! A generous sense of space begins with an ample front porch with stately columns and plenty of room for rocking chairs to enjoy the pastoral beauty of the Coastal Carolinas.

Pass through an eight-foot-tall entrance door to a distinctive foyer that leads to an open-concept living space with cathedral ceilings. Interior barn doors and a fireplace with a floating mantle bring warmth and a modern farmhouse feel.

An Open-Plan Kitchen for Today’s Lifestyles

Stylish farmhouse aesthetics continue with the kitchen’s shiplap accents and a sink before a window with views of green grounds. Topped by your choice of quartz or granite, the kitchen’s large island is sure to serve as your home’s hub. It has an oversized overhang that allows for storing bar stools underneath. And the pantry has a handy, space-saving pocket door!

Just off the main dining area, a screened-in porch beckons you to enjoy fresh air in laid-back comfort. However, you may opt for an enclosed four seasons room with walls of windows that fill the casual space with natural light.

A Truly Private Primary Suite

With the Palmetto Cove, the main living space lies between the secondary bedrooms and the primary suite. This offers homeowners exceptional privacy. A triple, six-foot-tall window exudes elegance with double-studded pockets and a finely detailed pediment. Your generous ensuite has a wide double vanity, bathed in light from a transom window, and a zero-entry rainfall shower.

A Bonus Room and Bonus Storage

Ascend to the Palmetto Cove’s second floor to find one of the home’s most versatile spots: the bonus room. With a full bath, this sizeable area could serve as a guest bedroom. Or perhaps you’d prefer an upstairs lounge. The bonus room’s position apart from other living spaces also makes it perfect for a private study.

Just off the bonus room, a walk-in attic has ample storage space, which never gets too hot or cold thanks to Hagood’s signature spray foam insulation. There’s also lots of storage room in an oversized two-car garage at the side of the home. This side-load garage eliminates the need for a driveway in front of the house!

RiverSea Plantation Has a New Palmetto Cove!

You should check it out! A desirable gated community set along the Lockwood Folly River, RiverSea Plantation invites homeowners to enjoy amenities galore. These include a clubhouse, indoor and outdoor pools, and boardwalk trails for exploring ponds and untouched nature across 540 verdant acres. RiverSea Plantation also has tennis and pickleball courts, a boat ramp and a dock, and more!

The Palmetto Cove is just one of Hagood’s award-winning floorplans. Connect with us using the form below to learn more and see where we can build your dream home.

Another home that looks out to one of RiverSea’s 23 ponds, the most recent Modern Farmhouse features vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, expansive covered porches, and design details, including shaker cabinets and sliding barn doors.

Pond views are also a feature of the latest Shelter Cove, which welcomes you with a 35-foot-wide front porch with crushed-shell flooring. Walls of windows and high ceilings provide ample light and space, while a split-bedroom plan offers maximum privacy.

Can you imagine a life with pond views? Hagood has a variety of homesites to choose from available to build in RiverSea.

New Homes with Happy Owners

One of the recently closed homes in RiverSea Plantation is an impressive Fort Fisher Cove with a private pool. This award-winning plan features an open chef’s kitchen, an oversized two-car garage, and shiplap accents throughout.

New members of the RiverSea community have closed on a Shelter Cove with a vaulted ceiling leading from the entrance to the open living area. The primary suite features a tray ceiling, hardwood floors, and a zero-entry shower. All of which the new owners are sure to love!

Nature Treks Close to Home

Ready for a stroll through unspoiled nature? RiverSea’s miles of boardwalk trails cross pristine woodlands rich with pine and hardwood trees, passing through expanses of tall grass. Be sure to continue to the lush banks of the Lockwood Folly River, a smooth-running tidal river that flows to the Atlantic Ocean. Boating enthusiasts love that RiverSea has a boat ramp, a dock, and on-site boat and boat-trailer storage.

Splashtastic Summer Fun Awaits

There’s no need to go far for a refreshing break from the Carolina heat! Not with the numerous community amenities that include outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Hagood Homes Wins a Coveted Parade of Homes People’s Choice Award!

Dozens of models competed. But the people chose only one: the Harbour Town III. This stunning entry in the recent Wilmington Parade of Homes was by far the event’s fan favorite. During the annual showcase of new homes, voters cast a vote for one featured home in the highly competitive People’s Choice category. The nominee they overwhelmingly favored is also one of our most popular models, brought to fruition by Hagood’s team of experts and their invaluable trade partners. Without whom this remarkable success wouldn’t be possible.

A Success Story That Spans History

It takes a dedicated group of professionals to reach a level of accomplishment that garners such awards. The story of Hagood Homes originated with two individuals: Jim and Troy Kenny. These founders carried on a tale that stretches back to the 1840s. That’s when Jim’s great-grandfather, Johnson Hagood, built the very first Hagood home. A home that proudly stands today. Now, nearly two centuries and over 1,200 homes later, Jim and Troy are key members of the Carolina homebuilding community and have earned esteemed spots in the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association’s Hall of Fame.

Setting Trends and Following Guidance

As a homebuilding trend leader, Hagood Homes seamlessly blends traditional coastal-inspired aesthetics with contemporary design details for today’s lifestyles. From unique open-floor plans and ten-foot ceilings to bonus rooms with lounges and baths, our brand lies at the forefront of modern home construction. And our incredible clients share credit for many of the latest innovations; we incorporate homeowner feedback as we fine-tune designs for the next generation of Hagood homes.

Is it truly better to give or to receive?

We believe in both! With a deep understanding that an integral part of our success lies in the positive impact we make on the communities in and around the places where we create homes. Over nearly two decades, Hagood’s founders, Jim and Troy Kenny, have donated over 1.2 million dollars to local charities. These include the Special Olympics New Hanover County, the Ronald McDonald House of Durham & Wake, the child advocacy group Carousel Center, and others. Established in 2004 by Jim and Troy, the nonprofit organization Hagood Hope for Children has an ongoing mission to bring food, clothing, and shelter to children in need around the world.

Closer to home, Hagood creates jobs; each newly constructed house provides around 250 positions, including jobs for on-site workers, local suppliers, and many others across the community. This giving back is at the heart of Hagood’s mission statement: “To build houses that become homes, to improve the communities we call home, and to improve the lives of our employees, trade partners, and homeowners.”

For Hagood Homes, this award recognizes our commitment to quality and contributions to the communities our clients call home. Contact us today using the form below to find out how you can become part of the Hagood family.

Find Out Why the Cape Lookout is Our Best-Selling Home

Given Hagood Homes’ long-standing reputation for high-quality homes, it’s no small feat to be dubbed the best-selling home plan.

Take a tour with sales agent Josh Adams as he walks you through one of our latest Cape Lookouts in The Bluffs on the Cape Fear.

Interested in purchasing this Cape Lookout available with a Leaseback in The Bluffs community? Contact Josh Adams at (828) 638-6720.

Why is the Cape Lookout in such high demand? Here are just a few reasons.

    Living Space for Today’s Lifestyles

Open-concept living doesn’t get much better than this! With an integrated living room, kitchen, and dining area, the Cape Lookout’s open floor plan offers truly functional living spaces that fit today’s families. There’s plenty of space for enjoying meals with a 12-foot by 12-foot dining area and the kitchen’s oversized island. With no threshold, the great room seamlessly flows to the four seasons room, where walls of windows offer panoramic views of the outdoors.

Contemporary floor plans often include formal dining areas. But modern homeowners rarely host formal dinners. And so, the Cape Lookout transforms the typical formal dining space into a more usable office. This room is filled with sunlight from large windows and two sets of French doors, with Tech Wood oak floors offering warmth and a polished finish.

    A Life Amid Exquisite Design

The Cape Lookout welcomes you with a large covered porch that embodies low-country design, while the floor’s optional crushed-shell finish adds a gorgeous coastal touch. Distinguished design elements run through the home, from common areas graced by striking five-inch plank wood flooring and oversized baseboards to ceilings with elegant crown molding and doors with flat-panel coastal trim. You’ll find quartz countertops throughout the home, with 16 paint colors and 11 stains to choose from for cabinetry.

The Primary Suite of Your Dreams

Relax in a bedroom retreat with over 200 square feet for spreading out, filled with natural light from a five-panel bay window, while raised 12-foot-high ceilings expand the sense of openness. Enjoy a walk-in closet with around 100 square feet, while the en suite has a double sink vanity with twin edge-lit Hollywood mirrors and a spacious zero-entry shower with top windows for natural light.

    Room for Everything…and Then Some

Starting with the coat closet in the foyer, the Cape Lookout has storage space galore! Couldn’t your life use a drop zone? This catch-all space is perfect for stashing coats, bags, and similar on-the-go items. It’s located off an oversized two-car garage with an ample storage closet, a workbench cut-out, and room for a golf cart bay. And don’t you deserve a walk-in pantry? The Cape Lookout offers a wonderful one with motion-activated lights. For even more storage space, head up to the expansive attic with high ceilings — so no crouching!

Constructed to Conserve Energy and Save Money

Encapsulated in spray foam insulation, the Cape Lookout is designed to lower energy use and keep utility bills down without sacrificing service. The eco-friendly construction extends to a Therma-Tru front door, triple-paned insulated windows, and a Trane HVAC system that divides the home into multiple climate zones, each controlled by its own thermostat. Plus premium, energy-efficient KitchenAid appliances, including a separate beverage cooler and double built-in ovens.

Can you imagine living in an amazing Cape Lookout? If so, contact a member of the Hagood team to build you dream home today!

Granite, Quartz or Marble? Tips for Choosing the Best Countertops for Your Kitchen & Bath

Countertops are an integral part of a custom home design aesthetic and functionality. We often have buyers asking for advice on the material to use in certain spaces. During the selections process we help narrow down the options to the right type of material for the space that is not only beautiful, but also fits their family’s needs and lifestyle. From aesthetics to durability, each material has pros and cons, depending on the space and how it will be used day-to-day.

      What is the difference?

      Granite
Granite countertops are a naturally quarried product and come in a wide array of colors and interesting patterns. No two pieces are exactly alike. Granite is a durable but porous material.

      Quartz
Quartz countertops are an engineered product produced from a combination of roughly ground natural quartz, coloring, and polyresin. Quartz is non-porous.

      Cultured Marble
Cultured Marble countertops are made from a natural stone known for its unique veining, or “marbling.” Marble is a very porous stone.

The kitchen is typically the busiest room in a house, calling for durable and beautiful kitchen counters that can stand up to kitchen grease, hot pots and pans, spills, and other messes. Hagood Homes offers granite and quartz as countertops for the kitchen. See the list of pros and cons for both below:

      Granite
      Pros

      • Beautiful patterns and colors to choose
      • Stain-resistant
      • Heat-resistant to hot pots and pans
      • Scratch-resistant from knives and abrasives

      Cons

      • Requires yearly sealing to reduce staining
      • Edges and corners can chip

      Quartz
      Pros

      • Beautiful patterns and colors to choose
      • Doesn’t need to be sealed
      • Stain-resistant
      • Doesn’t harbor bacteria and viruses
      • Scratch-resistant from knives and abrasives

      Cons

      • Edges and corners can chip
      • Not as resistant to heat as granite
      • Can be more expensive than granite

      Bathroom Countertops

Just like in the kitchen, granite and quartz are as equally beautiful as bathroom countertops. We also offer cultured marble in the bathrooms. But since the use of bathroom countertops differs from the kitchen, there are specific factors to consider when selecting a bathroom countertop.

      Granite
      Pros

      • Waterproof when sealed
      • Scratch-resistant from daily wear and tear
      • Resists stains from mail polish, lipstick, cosmetics and other commons spills
      • Heat resistant to hot hair styling tools

      Cons

      • Must be sealed, or it will retain moisture
      • Edges and corners can chip

      Quartz
      Pros

      • Doesn’t need to be sealed
      • Resists cracking, chipping, etching and scratching
      • Inhibits bacterial or viral growth
      • Easily cleans with soap and water

      Cons

      • Not as resistant to heat from hot styling tools
      • Edges and corners can chip

      Cultured Marble
      Pros

      • Resistant to heat from hair styling tools
      • Harder to crack or damage
      • Less expensive than granite or quartz

      Cons

      • Prone to staining from hair dyes and makeup
      • Susceptible to damage from acidic cleaners
      • Periodic sealing needed

      Our Included Countertops

When it comes to design and style, granite and cultured marble countertops are more traditional in their colors and patterns, where quartz countertop designs tend to be more contemporary. All of the countertops we offer—granite, quartz, and cultured marble—are durable and beautiful. Choosing which ones to add to your new home comes down to what will work best for your family’s lifestyle.

The centrally located laundry room on the main level is especially convenient to the kitchen, making it easy to multitask between cooking and doing the laundry.

      First-floor Primary Suite

The primary bedroom in the Harbour Town III is located on the first floor for functionality and convenience. While this bedroom is close to the hub of the main living areas, it still offers privacy and features a large bay window and nook, where you can create a private seating area perfect for reading a book or enjoying a morning cup of coffee. The primary en suite features an impressive tiled walk-in shower. The primary suite also features another homeowner must-have: an oversized walk-in closet.

      Second Floor Lounge & Balcony

One of the standout features of Harbour Town III is the second-floor lounge area, which includes a covered balcony. Think of it as an upper-level informal living room that’s a perfect retreat for family members looking for some quiet, a home office, or even a workout room. Hagood Homes is the #1 Builder in 3 Cape Fear Area Gated Communities

Hagood Homes is the number-one builder in Compass Pointe, RiverSea Plantation, and St. James Plantation! Let’s look at why we’re so successful and why you might choose to live in one of these exceptional gated communities.

      The Advantages of Gated Communities

The guarded entrance of a gated community controls access to the neighborhood, which translates to more privacy, lower crime rates, and peace of mind for residents.

But gated communities aren’t really about keeping people out as much as they’re about creating a sense of community within. In the neighborhoods of Compass Pointe, RiverSea Plantation, and St. James, neighbors’ bond through a shared sense of place. From walks along nearly traffic-free streets to gatherings at community spots such as a clubhouse or pool, neighbors truly get to know each other. All while building home equity, as gated communities see some of the highest increases in property values.

      Three Communities. One Top Builder.

Compass Pointe: Hagood Homes is the number-one builder two years in a row in Compass Pointe, located just ten minutes from Downtown Wilmington. This community is full of amenities, including the Resort Oasis Pool with a lazy river, tennis and pickleball courts, a wellness center and the Compass Pointe Golf Club.

Available homes in this sought-after community include a four-bedroom, four-bath Woods Cove model, with a newly opened Harbour Town III model. And you can tour the Calibogue, a coastal-inspired open-concept home awash in natural light.

RiverSea Plantation: We’re also the number-one builder in RiverSea Plantation, a 540-acre retreat set alongside the Lockwood Folly River. Nearly Two Centuries in the Making

Hagood Homes has been building dream homes for over 25 years, but its history stretches back to the 1800s. That’s when Johnson Hagood, the great-grandfather of Hagood Homes founder Jim Kenny, built his home among the ancient oaks and tall pines of Barnwell, South Carolina. That home still stands today. It’s a testament to Hagood’s long-lasting quality and current mission to create houses that become homes, improving communities and the lives of the people who live there.
